Peirce, Saussure and Duval: a possible epistemological dialogue between theories
Keywords:
Epistemology, Registers, SemioticsAbstract
In the development of Mathematics, a continuous evolution of its representations has been observed, from numerical symbols to computational models, facilitating the interpretation of mathematical concepts. The Theory of Semiotic Representation Registers (TSRR), proposed by Raymond Duval and influenced by Peirce and Saussurre, emphasizes that mathematical knowledge is constructed through different semiotic registers. This theory, of great relevance in Mathematical Education, has been the subject of in-depth studies. The objective of this article is to analyze the epistemological perspectives and guidelines of the TSRR through historical and epistemological reflections, as a way to contribute to the growth of the relationship between the teacher and mathematical knowledge, about the importance of this for the teacher's pedagogical practice and the incorporation of different representation registers in their classes. The methodology employed is a bibliographical research of already published materials.
