Abstract

Objective: To identify the levels and sources of perceived stress among dental students at a private Ecuadorian university during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Methods: A descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out. The Dental Environmental Stress questionnaire was administered to 321 students.

Results: Most students felt stressed by the academic load, where the amount of homework assigned in class (95.3%) tops the list, followed by its difficulty (92.2%), evaluations and grades (91.9%), fear of failing a course (90.3%), difficulty learning the manual skills and accuracy required in preclinical and laboratory work (75.4%), difficulty learning clinical procedures and protocols (74.5%), feedback inconsistency about their work among instructors (74.1), and meeting degree requirements (70.1%).

Conclusion: The main sources of perceived stress among dental students during COVID-19 are academic load, time constraints, and clinical training.
