El Teatro de Calle como una Herramienta para La Libertad de Expresión

Abstract

La libertad de expresión es, aparte de una necesidad, un derecho universal de los seres humanos. No admite ni censura previa, ni restricciones más allá de las legalmente establecidas y normalmente implementadas por el abuso de este derecho hacia terceros. Es decir, la libertad de uno de decir lo que quiera es proporcional a la libertad del otro de que no sea ofendido. Este derecho ampara todos los discursos: político, religioso, científico, artístico, publicitario, etc. El teatro de calle es un medio artístico para que el dramaturgo, director o el artista mediante símbolos verbales y no verbales (maquillaje, vestuario, iluminación, música, escenografía, y elementos proxémicos, paralingüísticos o kinésicos) en espacios no convencionales (calles, plazas, veredas, parques, etc.) transmita mensajes (ideas, sentimientos, protestas) que puedan estar afectando a la ciudadanía de un país o del mundo. Genera el pensamiento crítico en la población y garantiza, además, la posibilidad que las comunidades puedan comunicar sus problemáticas sin la necesidad de recurrir a los medios convencionales de comunicación, no accesibles para la mayoría. El trabajo ahonda en el teatro de calle como espacio para la expresión del libre pensamiento, y se analizan por medio de entrevistas y un cuestionario algunos de los factores que limitan el teatro de calle en el contexto venezolano y cómo la política del Estado venezolano puede influir en el desarrollo del teatro de calle. Se concluye que el teatro de calle sí es una herramienta para la libertad de expresión, a pesar de sus limitaciones derivadas de políticas económicas y culturales, y de los mismos artistas; y, que el Estado venezolano tiene los recursos y capacidad para ayudar a los artistas callejeros a superar estos obstáculos.

Freedom of speech is, apart from a need, a universal right of human beings. It cannot admit previous censorship or restrictions beyond the legally established, and usually implemented by the abuse of that right to others. Thus, the liberty to say what one wants is proportional to the freedom of others not to be offended. This right supports all types of speeches: political, religious, scientific, artistic, advertising and so on. Street theater is an artistic medium for the playwright, director or actor through verbal and nonverbal symbols (makeup, costumes, lighting, music, scenery, and proxemic, paralinguistic and kinesic elements) in unconventional spaces (streets, plazas, parks, etc.) to transmit messages (thoughts, feelings, protests) that may be affecting of a country or the world. It can generate critical thinking in the population and also ensure the possibility for communities to communicate their problems without the necessity of resorting to conventional means of communication, not accessible to the majority. The work delves into the street theatre as a space for the expression of free thought, and through interviews and a questionnaire it analyses some of the factors that can limit street theater in the venezuelan context, and how the policy of the venezuelan State can influence in the development of street theater. It is concluded that street theatre itself is a tool for the freedom of speech, despite its limitations resulting from economic and cultural policies, and the artists themselves; and also, that the Venezuelan State has the resources and capacity to assit street performers to overcome these obstacles.
